Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Based on the product page, the Lumio UV is equipped with 40 UV LEDs only, with no mention of a white-light or polarised mode. Clinics needing both general polarised examination and UV capability in one device should consider the DermLite Lumio 2 instead, which includes UV wavelengths alongside polarised white light.
It's described as a modern reincarnation of a Wood's lamp, a UV examination tool traditionally used to help visualize certain skin and scalp conditions under ultraviolet light. As a single-purpose UV device, it's suited to clinics that specifically need UV examination rather than general dermoscopy.
The Lumio UV is a dedicated single-mode UV device with 40 UV LEDs and a 75mm 2x lens, while the Lumio 2 includes UV as just one of five selectable modes (alongside polarised white light, blue light, and Wood mode) on a more advanced, rechargeable device. Clinics wanting UV only, at a lower price point, may prefer the Lumio UV; those wanting UV plus other lighting modes in one device may prefer the Lumio 2.
It runs on AA batteries, with the manufacturer stating a set provides a minimum of 250 examinations at roughly 30 seconds each. Four AA batteries are included with the unit.
Each unit ships with the Lumio UV device, four AA batteries, and a protective neoprene pouch, backed by a 5-year warranty. This mirrors the inclusions of the base Lumio model.
