Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

The Lumio is built for general, glare-free skin examination at 2x magnification with a wide 75mm lens, suited to varicose veins, pigmented skin lesions, hair follicles, and broader dermatological exams rather than close-up single-lesion dermoscopy. Clinics needing high-magnification lesion-level detail, such as 10x dermoscopy, should consider a dedicated DermLite dermatoscope like the DL100 or DL200 range instead.

The product page doesn't mention smartphone or camera compatibility, unlike many other DermLite models. Clinics wanting digital image capture and documentation should consider a DermLite dermatoscope built for that purpose, such as the DL1, DL4, or DL5.

It runs on AA batteries (also compatible with lithium alkaline batteries), and the manufacturer states a set provides a minimum of 250 examinations at roughly 30 seconds each. Four AA batteries are included with the unit.

The Lumio uses permanent cross-polarisation, meaning it doesn't offer a toggle to non-polarised lighting like some other DermLite models. This fixed setup is intended to consistently reduce glare across the range of exams the Lumio is designed for.

This base Lumio model offers 40 LEDs, a 75mm 2x lens, and permanent cross-polarisation as an entry point in the Lumio range. The Lumio 2, Lumio S, and Lumio UV are separate, higher-priced models in the same range; clinics should compare each product page individually, as this page doesn't detail the specific differences between them.
